About Crooked River National Grassland

Crooked River National Grassland spans nearly 98,000 acres of public land in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service for multiple uses. The landscape offers a mix of open grassland, scattered timber, and riparian areas along the Crooked River drainage, providing habitat for wildlife and a range of outdoor pursuits. Visitors can explore the grassland via hiking and horseback riding, camp in dispersed sites throughout the property, fish for native and stocked species, and take scenic drives to access different corners of the land. Hunting is also available during designated seasons. Summer and early fall represent the prime visiting window, when roads and trails are reliably passable and weather is mild. Winter snow can close or complicate access to many areas, while spring runoff can affect water conditions and trail quality.
