About Whitney
Whitney is a former unincorporated coal town in Fayette County, West Virginia, now considered a ghost town. The community developed around the coal industry that once drove much of this part of the state.
Visitors today will find little more than remnants of the former settlement set within the West Virginia landscape. As with most ghost towns of its kind, the physical evidence of the community has largely faded, making this a destination for those drawn to industrial heritage and quiet exploration rather than dramatic ruins.
