About Sunrise

Sunrise is a former company town in Platte County, Wyoming, built to serve the operations of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. The entire footprint of the old mining district and its townsite has been recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, making it one of the more formally acknowledged ghost towns in the state.

Visitors today are stepping into a historic landscape rather than a living community. Because the whole site carries NRHP designation, it holds genuine historical significance, though those coming in search of a bustling destination should know this is a quiet, undeveloped remnant rather than an interpreted attraction.
