Placerville

Placerville is a small historic settlement in Boise County, Idaho, with roots in the gold industry that once drew prospectors and workers to the area. Though it retains a nominal population — ​48 residents were counted in the 2020 census — it carries the character of a ghost town, a quiet remnant of a more active past.

Visitors today will find a modest, lived-in community rather than a fully abandoned townsite, situated within the Boise City–Nampa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Expect a sparse, atmospheric stop rather than a developed heritage destination with marked trails or interpretive facilities.

Access is best in the warmer months, as Idaho winters in this part of Boise County can make roads difficult or impassable. Spring through early fall offers the most reliable window for a visit.
