Pickshin

Pickshin is a ghost town in Raleigh County, West Virginia, located roughly 5 miles south-southeast of Sophia. Once a coal-mining community, it operated as an unincorporated town during an era when the local industry was extracting significant tonnage — records show that between 1917 and 1927, more than 785,000 tons of coal were mined there. Today, no inhabitants remain.

Visitors will find an abandoned settlement with no active community infrastructure. As with most former coal towns in the region, the realistic draw is the historical atmosphere and the quiet rural setting rather than developed amenities or maintained facilities.
