Packard

Packard is a ghost town in Whitley County, Kentucky, situated about 7 miles southeast of Williamsburg. It began around 1900 as a mining camp established by the Thomas B. Mahan family and grew into a coal town centered on the Packard Coal Company. Both the town and the company took their name from Amelia Packard, a Whitley County schoolteacher. At its height the community may have housed close to 400 residents and even supported its own railway station.

Today Packard is a ghost town, and visitors should expect little more than a quiet rural setting with possible scattered remnants of the former community. It holds appeal primarily for history enthusiasts and photographers drawn to forgotten coal-era settlements.
