Nuttallburg Coal Mining Complex and Town Historic District

Nuttallburg Coal Mining Complex and Town Historic District is a ghost town within New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in Fayette County, West Virginia, situated near Winona. The site once functioned as a coal mining community built along the railroad at the bottom of the gorge, and visitors today can explore the remains of coke ovens, mining structures, and a bridge that once crossed the New River to South Nuttall.

The townsite sits nearly directly across the gorge from the similarly abandoned Kay Moor mine and townsite, making this stretch of the New River Gorge a rare concentration of industrial heritage. The gorge setting means access can be steep and conditions vary considerably by season, with winter months bringing the most challenging and potentially hazardous conditions.
