Muscogee

Muscogee is a ghost town in Escambia County, Florida, situated along the Perdido River about twenty miles northwest of Pensacola. Its origins trace to 1857, when a group of lumbermen established the settlement to harvest timber from the region's pine forests. The town took its name from the Muscogee Lumber Company, an enterprise organized by businessmen from Georgia. Over time, systematic clearcutting stripped the surrounding forests, and once the timber was gone, the lumber industry that had sustained the community collapsed along with it.

Today Muscogee exists as a quiet, largely empty spot along the Perdido River corridor. Visitors drawn to Florida ghost towns will find little infrastructure here, but the riverside setting offers a sense of the remote woodland landscape that once made the area attractive to lumbermen. It suits those interested in history, quiet scenery, or photography rather than developed outdoor recreation.
