About Moonville

Moonville is a ghost town in southeastern Brown Township, Vinton County, Ohio. The community once supported a mining industry, but little physical evidence of that past survives today.

Visitors will find a handful of stone foundations, a cemetery, and the site's most prominent landmark: the Moonville Tunnel, an abandoned railroad tunnel that has become the focus of numerous local ghost stories and legends. The tunnel draws curiosity seekers, history buffs, and photographers alike.

Access is straightforward for most of the year, though winter months can make the area less hospitable. Spring and fall offer the most atmospheric conditions for exploring the ruins and tunnel.
