Mauldin

Mauldin — also known as Mauldin Logging Camp — is a ghost town in Montgomery County, Arkansas, situated between the communities of Mount Ida and Pencil Bluff. It was founded in 1918 through the efforts of Billy Mauldin and Thomas Rosborough, and within a few years had grown into a busy settlement as workers arrived to work in the cutting and processing of virgin timber in the surrounding area.

Today the site exists as a ghost town, and visitors should expect little in the way of standing structures or formal amenities. The draw here is the quiet, historically layered landscape and the story of a community that rose and faded with the timber industry. Access is best attempted in the warmer, drier months; winter conditions in rural Montgomery County can make back-road travel unpredictable.
