About Latourell

Tucked along the Historic Columbia River Highway in Multnomah County, Oregon, Latourell was once a thriving community that reached its peak in the 1880s. Today it has faded to little more than a ghost town, a quiet stop on a scenic corridor rather than a destination in its own right.

Latourell sits roughly eight miles east of Troutdale and about five and a half miles west of the far more visited Multnomah Falls, placing it in notable company while drawing only a fraction of the crowds. Visitors passing through will find a sparse, mostly residential setting with little remaining infrastructure from the community's busier era.

The Historic Columbia River Highway itself is the main draw for anyone stopping here, offering scenic driving through the area. Because the location is accessible via a paved highway route, it can generally be visited across a wide stretch of the year, though winter weather in the Columbia River Gorge can bring ice and hazardous road conditions worth watching for.
