Jelm-Frank Smith Ranch Historic District

The Jelm-Frank Smith Ranch Historic District — also known as Old Jelm and Cummins City — sits on bottomland along the Laramie River near Woods Landing, Wyoming, in Albany County. The site traces its origins to 1880, when W.S. "Buck" Bramel and John Cummins established a mining boomtown following gold discoveries in the nearby mountains. At its brief peak in 1881, Cummins City counted roughly 100 houses and a hotel. The decline came quickly, however, and by 1886 mining activity had largely faded, leaving the settlement to slip into abandonment.

Today the district is a quiet riverside landscape where remnants of that short-lived boom remain. Visitors drawn to Wyoming ghost towns will find the setting along the Laramie River scenic in its own right. Access and on-the-ground conditions should be confirmed locally before visiting, as services in this remote area are minimal.
