Jayville

Jayville is a ghost town in the southwest corner of St. Lawrence County, New York. It began as a mining community around 1850, growing up alongside what would become the Carthage and Adirondack Railroad. The settlement's decline came quickly — the local mineral composition proved unfavorable and ore was difficult to access, so operations shifted to Benson Mines, roughly 14 miles to the east along the same rail line. After mining ceased, other industries including sawmilling took hold for a time, but the community ultimately did not survive.

Visitors today are coming to a true ghost town, so expectations should be set accordingly. The draw is historical curiosity and the quiet rural setting of St. Lawrence County rather than developed amenities or marked attractions.
