Griggsville Landing

Griggsville Landing is a ghost town on the Illinois River in Pike County, also historically called Phillips Landing or Phillips Ferry. Situated in Flint Township just south of Valley City, the site traces its origins to the 1830s as a steamboat stop on the river.

At its peak the settlement supported a boat yard, a grist mill, a hotel, and a lime kiln that was part of a commercial lime operation predating the post-Civil War intensification of the lime industry. The riverfront location made it a natural hub for river traffic during that era.

Today Griggsville Landing is a former town site with little formal infrastructure for visitors. Those drawn to Illinois River history and quiet rural landscapes will find the setting itself the main draw, best explored in the warmer months when river access and the surrounding countryside are most hospitable.
