Gorham

Gorham is a ghost town in Billings County, North Dakota, with roots going back to around 1899. What set this community apart was its strong Ukrainian immigrant identity — settlers who built a Ukrainian Catholic church, a general store, a post office, and supporting businesses that made Gorham a genuine center of rural life for the surrounding area.

The town was formally abandoned in 1972, though working farms remain in the surrounding countryside. Visitors today are exploring a largely vanished settlement rather than a preserved historic site, and should expect little more than open land and remnants. The rural North Dakota setting means access and road conditions vary significantly by season, with summer and early fall offering the most practical window for a visit.
