About Golden Pond

Golden Pond was a 19th-century town in western Trigg County, Kentucky, that gained notoriety during Prohibition for its moonshining activity. The Tennessee Valley Authority reshaped the surrounding landscape in the 1930s through dam construction aimed at flood control and electricity generation, an intervention that ultimately erased the original community.

Today the site serves as the headquarters of Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, located about 11 miles west-southwest of Cadiz. Visitors won't find remnants of the old town itself, but the headquarters facility makes it a practical starting point for exploring the broader recreation area around it.
