Ferry

Tucked just west of Vulcan Mountain in Ferry County, Washington, Ferry is a ghost town that traces its roots to the mining boom of the late 1890s. In its brief heyday it amounted to a rough-hewn cluster of log structures and false-front buildings thrown up quickly to serve the local mining industry.

The town's end came fast. By 1910, a series of insurance fires had gutted what little stood, and Ferry faded from existence soon after. Today almost nothing remains on the ground, making it a destination for history-minded visitors drawn more by the story than by any surviving architecture.
