About Divide

Divide is a ghost town in Lane County, Oregon, situated southwest of Cottage Grove near Interstate 5. Its origins trace to a post office established on May 31, 1900, which was initially recorded as part of Douglas County and sat near a Southern Pacific Railroad station. That post office operated for roughly two decades before closing on January 15, 1921. By 1909, records show it had been relisted under Lane County, likely reflecting either a physical relocation or a redrawing of the boundary between Lane and Douglas counties.

Today Divide offers little in the way of visible remains — it is a sparsely documented ghost town, and visitors should expect little more than a quiet rural setting along a historically significant rail corridor. Its easy proximity to Interstate 5 makes it a straightforward stop for history-minded travelers passing through the area.
