Cerbat

Tucked into a canyon just west of the Cerbat Mountains in Mohave County, Arizona, Cerbat grew out of a mining camp established in the late 1860s. At its peak the settlement sat 38 miles from Hardyville and supported a surprisingly complete community — more than 100 settlers in cabins, plus mining and public buildings, a school, a doctor's office, and a lawyer's office. A dirt road linked it to Fort Rock and Camp Hualapai by the 1870s.

Today Cerbat is a ghost town, and visitors should expect the quiet, weathered reality that label implies: remnants of a once-active settlement in a canyon setting, without the services or infrastructure of its former days. It suits photographers and history-minded sightseers willing to explore on their own terms.
