Carter Nine

Carter Nine is a ghost town in Osage County, Oklahoma, situated about 2.5 miles south of Shidler. It began in 1922 as a company-owned town built by the Carter Oil Company to house workers at an oil refinery. The company had originally considered placing housing in nearby Burbank, but determined that option too costly and instead established its own settlement. A post office followed, opening on August 14, 1928.

Visitors today will find little more than an open rural landscape — the hallmark of most Oklahoma ghost towns of this era. There are no documented standing structures, maintained trails, or formal access points noted for this site, so anyone making the trip should treat it as a quiet piece of oil-boom history set into the Osage County countryside.
