About Caribou

Caribou is a ghost town in Boulder County, Colorado, built around a silver mine that once gave the town its name. It sits near Nederland and represents one of the region's vanished mining-era communities.

Visitors today will find little more than remnants of what was once an active settlement. Nearby, about 3.6 miles to the east, the unincorporated community of Caribou City and the former Caribou Ranch recording studio serve as the closest modern reference points for orienting a visit.

Given how little physical fabric remains, Caribou appeals most to history enthusiasts and photographers drawn to atmospheric, faded landscapes. The setting in Boulder County means mountain weather can shift quickly, and access is most reliable in the warmer months.
