About Camp Grant

Tucked along the South Fork Eel River in Humboldt County, California, Camp Grant is a ghost town that sits roughly 2 miles northeast of Weott and 3 miles east of Dyerville. Its layered past begins with the Northern Sinkyone people, who originally called the area home. A Union Army camp followed, and the site later became a support settlement tied to logging and the construction of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad.

Today very little infrastructure survives from any of those eras, and visitors come primarily for the historical curiosity of the location and its river setting rather than for any preserved structures. The surrounding Humboldt County landscape and proximity to the South Fork Eel River give the spot quiet scenic appeal. Winter rainfall and potential flooding along the river corridor can make access difficult from December through March, so a visit in the drier late-spring through early-fall months is more reliable.
