About Boyd

Boyd is a former incorporated city in Wasco County, Oregon, that was disincorporated in 1955 and has since faded into near-total vacancy. Where a functioning community once stood, visitors today encounter a handful of abandoned homes, weathered outbuildings, and a derelict wooden grain elevator — all set amid working wheat fields that still grow the very crop the elevator was built to store. The surrounding land has been folded back into active farmland following a recent purchase of the site.

Reaching Boyd requires no special effort. It sits along the east side of U.S. Route 197, roughly 9.5 miles southeast of The Dalles, and the remnants are visible from the road without leaving your vehicle. There are no formal facilities, trails, or designated access points — this is roadside history at its most unvarnished. Visitors should respect that the property is privately held farmland and view the site from the highway.
