About Bourbonais

Bourbonais is a ghost town in Concord Township, Bureau County, Illinois. The settlement took shape in 1864 when it was platted along the Burlington railroad line, situated between Wyanet to the northeast and Buda to the southwest. Its unusual name traces back to an individual of mixed French and Native American heritage who made his home in the area as early as 1820.

Little documented evidence survives about what remains on the ground today. Visitors should expect a quiet rural landscape with little or no visible townsite infrastructure, typical of small Illinois railroad-era settlements that faded over time.
