About Blalock

Blalock is a ghost town in Gilliam County, Oregon, situated at the mouth of Blalock Canyon in the Columbia River Gorge, roughly seven miles west of Arlington along Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 30. Before the town existed, the site was home to a Native American settlement known as Táwash, which Blalock displaced.

Little remains of the community today, though the Union Pacific Railroad still maintains a station bearing the Blalock name. Visitors passing through on I-84 will find the canyon mouth and river gorge setting the most compelling reason to pause, along with the layered history the location carries.
