Beveridge

Perched at 5,587 feet on the eastern slope of the Inyo Mountains in Inyo County, California, Beveridge is a ghost town with roots in a mining boom that once drew settlers to this remote high-desert terrain. The town was named for John Beveridge, an early resident of the Owens Valley, and at its peak represented the kind of optimistic, short-lived growth that defined mining communities across the region.

Today Beveridge is an unincorporated community in name only — what remains is a quiet, largely empty landscape that rewards visitors with a sense of history and dramatic elevation. Access to a site this remote and rugged demands preparation: expect rough, unmaintained roads and no services. The high elevation and exposed setting make late spring through early fall the most practical window for a visit, while winter conditions can make the area genuinely dangerous.
