About Belgrade

Belgrade is a ghost town in Newton County, Texas, situated about a mile west of the Sabine River near Farm to Market Road 1416. The town was once a active community but fell into decline at the onset of the Civil War and has since been abandoned. Its name traces back to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.

Visitors today will find a cemetery and a centennial marker — the last physical traces of the settlement. There are no structures or developed facilities to speak of, so come with modest expectations and a respect for the historic ground.
