Bayocean

Tucked along Tillamook Spit — a narrow finger of land bordering Tillamook Bay — Bayocean carries the grim nickname 'the town that fell into the sea.' Developers launched it in 1906 as an ambitious planned resort community in Tillamook County, Oregon, but the spit's fragile geography eventually claimed the settlement entirely.

Today no buildings remain. Visitors come for the eerie atmosphere of a place swallowed by coastal forces, the bay views, and the wild, windswept character of the spit itself. It is a place better experienced as landscape than as ruin.

Access is straightforward but be prepared for the coast's unpredictable weather. Winter months bring hazardous conditions, while late spring through early fall offers the most reliable window for a visit.
