Avery

Avery is a ghost town in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, with roots in the early twentieth century. Originally established under the name Mound City, the community was later renamed to honor Avery Turner, a worker with the Eastern Oklahoma Railway, after the railroad extended through the area. A post office operated here for over fifty years, from 1902 until 1957, marking the arc of the settlement's active life.

Today Avery is a quiet rural site typical of Oklahoma's scattered former communities. Visitors should expect little in the way of formal infrastructure or preserved structures — this is a place for those curious about the region's settlement history rather than a developed destination.
