About Antioch
Antioch is a ghost town in Freestone County, Texas, reached by Farm to Market Road 1364. The community took root in the nineteenth century, with a Baptist church organized there in 1873, and at one point supported a local school before that school was consolidated by Turlington in 1908. By the 1960s the settlement had been abandoned entirely.
Visitors today will find little more than a quiet rural roadside stop. The documented landmarks — the church and school — are long gone or in severe decline, and the site offers a glimpse into the modest agricultural communities that once dotted this part of central Texas. Photography of the remnant landscape is the primary draw for curious travelers passing through.
