Allendale

Allendale is a ghost town in Wichita County, Texas, located along Farm to Market Road 2650. It was founded in 1889 by Elbert Allen, B. Dale Hinkle, and A. D. Butcher, with the name honoring the first two founders. A post office served the community at various points, first operating by 1872, then closing in 1895, reopening in 1903, and finally shutting down sometime after 1930. The local school remained open until the 1940s before it too closed, marking the town's effective end as a functioning community.

Today Allendale offers little beyond the quiet satisfaction of standing on historically notable ground. Visitors curious about early Texas settlement history may find the drive along FM 2650 worthwhile, though no significant structures or formal attractions are known to remain.
